Njeguški pršut is Montenegro’s proudest export, and it can only be made here — where mountain and sea air mix at 900 m. Visit a family smokehouse with hundreds of hams hanging in the beech smoke, learn the two-year cure, then sit down to a board of pršut, cow and sheep cheese, olives, flatbread and honey rakija. The visit is short, sociable and entirely unathletic — ninety minutes of ham, cheese and stories at 900 m, with a glass of wine or rakija poured alongside. It slots perfectly into the Lovćen–Cetinje road; carnivores should consider skipping breakfast first.
