Velika Plaža is a kite-school dream: 12 kilometres of sand, waist-deep water hundreds of metres out, and a thermal wind that switches on almost every summer afternoon. This private two-hour lesson with an IKO-certified instructor covers kite control, body-dragging and — wind willing — your first board starts. Total beginners are exactly who this is for: one instructor, one student, and shallow water where you can simply stand up whenever the kite wins. Sessions run on the afternoon thermal, so keep your schedule loose; wetsuit, helmet and insurance are included.

Kayaking along the cliffs at sunset was the highlight of our whole trip. The boat crew handled the swell like pros and still found us a quiet cove. Life jackets were a bit tight, otherwise a decent afternoon on the water. Snorkeling gear was clean and well-fitted, and the skipper found calm, clear water.
