The hills above Lake Skadar hide dozens of garage-scale family wineries. This guided day from Podgorica visits three of the best: tasting Vranac straight from the barrel, Krstač from steel, and the family rakija, each round backed by boards of pršut, cheese and village bread — with the lake glinting below every cellar door. Six hours with transport, ten-plus tastings and food boards throughout — nobody needs to drive, and nobody leaves hungry. The cellars are family kitchens as much as businesses, so it suits travellers who want the winemakers’ company as much as their wine.

Really enjoyable
Our host poured generously and paired each wine with local cheese and prosciutto. Beautiful vineyard views and a host who clearly loves what he does. The cellar tour was fascinating and the vranac was the best we tried in Montenegro.
